There are so many good books to review for my first post that it took me a while to decide which to choose. But In honor of the 2nd book release I have decided to share with you the story of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
“COULD YOU SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN, IN THE WILD, WITH EVERY ONE OUT TO MAKE SURE YOU DON’T LIVE TO SEE THE MORNING?” -Suzanne Collins
a NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER and a USA TODAY BESTSELLER
“…enthralling, imaginative and creepy…”
–Los Angeles Times
“Themes of government control, “big brother,” and personal independence are explored amidst a thrilling adventure that will appeal to science fiction, survival, and adventure readers. The suspense of this powerful novel will keep the reader glued to the page long after bedtime.”
–VOYA, Deborah L. Dubois
This is a story that will have you questioning everything you know. It is like no other world I have ever lived in. The tale of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark is one of fear, intensity, love, and determination. I could not put this book down, the pages held me all the way through. I dreamt of the characters for days, they consumed my mind. The story takes place in the country of Panem(formerly known as the USA) where there are 12 districts. Panem is run by the Capitol and they are dangerous. Every year the Capitol choses 2 tributes from each district to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. I could not even imagine having to do what Katniss and Peeta must. To be chosen for death by your own goverment! To know that your family will be forced to watch as you’re hunted down like an animal! The freedom of these kids is stripped away from them and they are left to protect themselves. It is either win…or die.
There were times when I laughed, cried, got angry and even lost hope. You feel what the characters feel and it is as if you are right there with them the entire time.
“WINNING MEANS FAME AND FORTUNE. LOSING MEANS CERTAIN DEATH. THE HUNGER GAMES HAVE BEGUN….” -Suzanne Collins
Guys and girls alike will love this book and characters in it. Oh, and the great news…it’s a trilogy! The second novel in the series, Catching Fire, will be in stores on September 1st.
I have my copy ordered and I suggest you do the same!
This is a nice page. I have read The Hunger Games and will be getting Catching Fire, too. Great author. Thanks for the review.

I have to say this a mature and intuitive way of showing other people/teens your thoughts towards reading and books in general …..Welldone
Karen Fitton (England)
wow, sounds like its a pretty good read. must get now!!!
This sounds like an amazing book! What genre would you put it in?
Sounds like an intense fugitive story (you definitely did a good job getting me interested in it here), I might decide to give it a look if I ever have the time.
It is technically considered a “teen fiction”..but I think this book is a good read for all ages. Maybe a suspense thriller? It’s hard to give it an exact genre. =]
This is actually my favorite book ever. I read it over the summer and… yeah it was amazing. What you said is completely true. I know I didn’t put the book down until I was finished, and the plot was so unbelievable to me that it made it more interesting than a realistic plot. I had no idea the second one was coming out so soon. Thanks. Hopefully I’ll find a way to buy it this weekend.
I just got my copy today. =]
I can’t wait to read it. Then I will put up the review for it as well.
Thanks for the comment.
Excxellent job, Chantal – way to go! Any chance you could connect Hunger Games to a similar or possible challenge in your own life, and how you might respond to it (or why you’d choose not to)?

I really don’t think that there is anything in my life that could even slightly compare to the situation in this story. And for that I am VERY greatful.
Lol, when you had this up on the screen I was trying to read the review. I’m a pretty avid reader as well. (Is that the right word, avid? Lol). It sounds pretty wicked and like Lord of the Flies a little bit. But it’s always up to the author to recreate a situation and make it their own so I will most deffinitely be picking up this book in the near future.
haha, yes avid is correct.
I assure you, you will not be dissapointed.
